VIBROACOUSTIC SIMULATION Learn to master the full range of
vibroacoustic simulation using both SEA and hybrid FEM/SEA methods
Vibroacoustic simulation is the discipline of modelling and
predicting the acoustic waves and vibration of particular objects,
systems, or structures. This is done through finite element methods
(FEM) or statistical energy analysis (SEA) to cover the full
frequency range. In the mid-frequency range, both methods must be
combined into a hybrid FEM/SEA approach. By doing so, engineers can
model full frequency vibroacoustic simulations in complex technical
systems used in aircraft, trains, cars, ships, and satellites.
Indeed, hybrid approaches are increasingly used in the automotive,
aerospace, and rail industries. Previously covered primarily in
scientific journals, Vibroacoustic Simulation provides a practical
approach that helps readers master the full frequency range of
vibroacoustic simulation. Through a systematic approach, the book
illustrates why both FEM and SEA are necessary in acoustic
engineering and how both can be used in combination through hybrid
methodologies. Striking a crucial balance between complex theories
and practical applications, the text provides real-world examples
of vibroacoustic simulation, such as fuselage simulation,
interior-noise prediction for electric and combustion vehicles,
train profiles, and more, to help elucidate the concepts described
within. Vibroacoustic Simulation also features: A balance of
complex theories with the nuts and bolts of real-world applications
Detailed worked examples of junction equations Case studies from
companies like Audi and Airbus that illustrate how the methods
discussed have been applied in real-world projects A companion
website that provides corresponding Python codes for all examples,
allowing readers to work through the examples on their own
Vibroacoustic Simulation is a useful reference for acoustic and
mechanical engineers working in the automotive, aerospace, defense,
or rail industries, as well as researchers and graduate students
studying acoustics.
This book documents what happens when people encounter public
officials. It draws on multi-national Barometer surveys asking
questions about corruption and bribery in 119 countries. Clear
prose, tables and figures report the answers given by more than
250,000 people and the conclusion sets out six principles for
reducing bribery.
Many things can zap self confidence and your natural lust for life… strains at work, juggling work and children, juggling work, children and a social life. If you’re yelling ‘what social life?’ and are feeling stressed by all your commitments, this book is for you. These complaints are all too common in today's world of uncertainty and tension, and it's time we learned to take responsibility for ourselves.Vera Peiffer's no-nonsense and thoroughly practical bestseller Positive Thinking has already helped thousands to take control of their own lives. You too can discover that there really are no limits to what you can achieve. In her characteristic punchy style, Vera Peiffer shows you how to:set up a personal success programme• overcome stress at work and home• make new friends and be a more loving and responsive spouse• pinpoint how stress, worry and other confidence zappers develop• tackle the symptoms of an unhealthy lifestyle• mobilize your subconscious through self-hypnosis and visualization
While the Big Three and their continental Allies fought against
Nazi Germany, another war was under way on the continent: the war
to shape the political landscape of post-war Europe. In the
Balkans, the war overlapped with political and ethnic conflicts,
engulfing the region in bloody civil wars. In Central and Eastern
Europe, partisan movements engaged the Germans without losing sight
of the danger posed by the arrival of the Red Army. In France and
in Italy, the adoption of the slogans of national liberation
provided the communist parties with a formidable democratic
legitimacy, which established them as key players in the political
lives of their countries. The British and the Americans worked to
stir up, support, control, and direct these resistance groups.
London created the Special Operations Executive (SOE) and
Washington the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), both of whom
sent agents into occupied Europe to liaise directly with the
guerilla groups. Through the Comintern, Moscow carefully
coordinated the actions of the European communist parties with the
foreign policy of the Soviet Union, which was acting for the first
time as a key player in the arena of international relations. The
forests and the mountains where the partisans were fighting the
Germans soon became a major part of the proxy war that the Big
Three waged to shift the post-war geopolitical balance in their
favour. Looking for the first time at the Big Three in a
comparative study and spanning Europe from Yugoslavia to Poland,
from Greece to France and Italy, this book vividly depicts and
sharply analyses how this proxy war shaped the history of the
post-war settlement. In so doing, Piffer deftly connects high
political histories with history from below, making the book
important reading for all those interested in the history of the
war and cold war, communism and Resistance, and diplomacy and
intelligence.

This book explains why the role of corruption varies greatly
between public services, between people, between national systems
of governance, and between measures of corruption. More than 1.8
billion people pay the price of bad government each year, by
sending a bribe to a public official. In developing countries,
corruption affects social services, such as health care and
education, and law enforcement institutions, such as the police.
When public officials do not act as bureaucrats delivering services
by the book, people can try to get them by hook or by crook. The
book's analysis draws on unique evidence: a data base of sample
surveys of 175,000 people in 125 countries in Africa, Asia, the
Middle East, Europe, and North and South America. The authors avoid
one-size-fits-all proposals for reform and instead provide measures
that can be applied to particular public services to reduce or
eliminate opportunities for corruption.
